CHRISTMAS BUSTLES
It's almost Christmas,
It's snowing and snowflakes twirl in the winter sky.
My roof has caved in, a heavy sigh
As beams and rafters begin to cry.
It's raining and there's fog in the distance,
The rain is a gentle patter on windowpanes,
And from my window, I see lights twinkling on and off inside the fog,
Each blink a whisper, a light in the heart.
It's a sight to behold indeed.
I have cleaned the chimney and the heart is ready.
I can forgive now, forgive the past mistakes and sins that may have befallen me.
🎵"Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock
Jingle bells swing and jingle bells ring"🎵
The heart hums with excitement.
I clear my throat, noisily
Since I caught a cold while cutting down a tree for Mrs. Sinclair.
Outside, the scent of pine and refreshed air lingers
Sweet aroma of freshly baked cookies waft through the house
Evoking feelings of warmth, comfort and happiness.
My neighbor is going to Iceland this Christmas with her grandparents,
Her husband died last year,
And this morning, she gave me a box of candy.
This Christmas is different,
Even my feet adorned with Christmas socks agree as they dangle from the sofa.
As per tradition, I'm watching Home Alone.
What a stupid kid.
I'm not stupid,
I have cleansed my soul for the eve.
It's happening tomorrow.
I'll invite old Jenner since she has no one.
Her children left for the city, I doubt they'll visit
And her minced pies are to die for.
The tree is lit, adorned with sparkling lights
Underneath, gifts wrapped with care.
Mother got me a gift, it's been a while
So I'm busting with curiosity
As bells chime softly, all day long.
I crave a cup of hot cocoa, a cozy tug
The warmth of a hug,
And old grandpa Oliver's words come to me, like the soft whispers of a holiday memory;
That amidst the bustle, take the time to see
The magic of Christmas, in all it can be
That Christmas is more than just the things.
