I’ll Take That

I’ll TAKE THAT!

By the Urban Poet

If you want a win you’ll take a draw

‘Cos losing hits a nerve that’s raw

As good times go you’ll take the bad

An alternative to going mad

Now as for diets and keeping slim,

you’ll take whatever clothes your in

As long as they look reasonable enough,

to get the doubters to call your bluff

You’ll take any odds on a winning horse

As long as the nag just finishes the course

If front of every other jockey

Especially the one that’s looking stocky

If the Sat-nav says to take a right

You’ll take a left to avoid missing your flight

to Spain or France or the Canary Isles

But the food will probably give you piles

But no matter where, or what you’re at

The tax man says “hey I’ll take that”

From ‘Rhymes and Reasons’

Rick,
I really enjoyed reading I’ll Take That! The way you weave humour with life’s little compromises is both clever and relatable. The repeated phrase "I'll take that" captures the essence of settling for what's manageable, even when things aren't perfect, and you’ve done so in a way that’s playful yet insightful. I especially love how you balance lighthearted moments—like the sat-nav mishap or the diet struggles—with the deeper, unavoidable realities of life, like taxes. Your ability to find humour in the everyday challenges people face makes your poem both entertaining and thought-provoking. Keep writing—you’ve got a knack for turning the small moments into something special.
Regards,
Rolph
