Montgomery, USA 1956
People say to get over the racist days
but it was only 69 years ago that in montgomery negros were allowed to travel on buses and sit where they want
they were still subjected to church bombings
house bombings
if your skin is white you will never understand
i've had racist friends
comments out of hand
and he was black my best friend said
didn't she see the colour of my skin in her head
noone really gets the struggle negros went through
we're just supposed to overlook it
so overlook we do
its more than stares
more than snide remarks
its less pay in the work place
and scars left in our hearts
people treat you like your rat and they're a dog
thinking that cause your black
you have to follow god
so all the negros called upon jesus
but he never returned
they called on god
but was still overworked
slaving away
as a maid
they would say
atleast we pay
but you cant use our toilet
you cant use our front door
you still have to wash our kids
and nurse them once more
more motherly than their own mothers
but maids they still will be
never sitting at the table with whites
cause they were unworthy
now people say times have changed
but ive experienced it myself
and i'm only tarred with half of the brush
cause my mum is white aswell
so confused i grew
not really knowing
who i was
not really showing
why i felt lost
