Scarred Regardless

They said 'better now than later',
That you were kind enough to ease the pain.
Soft whispers to calm the storm.
But I was already submerged,
Drowning in the undertow of your affection.

Does the timing change the outcome?
What difference does it make to end it now or then?
Heartbreak was always inevitable.
Timing merely delays the fall,
The outcome never changed at all.

You didn't save me from a deeper scar.
So let's not justify the hurt and shame,
Lets face the truth, the heartbreak's the same,
No matter when it strikes, no matter how it unfolds
Pain remains.

If you truly wanted to spare me the pain,
You would have honored your promise.
Your timing merely saved me time.
Time invested in a love that never was.
You still wounded me.
Time is irrelevant. Pain remains the same

Does timing really change the outcome?
