The Poetry Train is pulling in to Shifnal in Shropshire, as part of the town’s very first Festival of Arts, Culture and Entertainment, which will be taking place between Friday, 17th and Sunday, 26th September.

The Poetry Train is just one of 32 exciting events taking and will be on Wednesday, 22n September at 7pm in the Village Hall. On board the train you’ll find a collection of entertaining and culturally diverse poets who will take you on a journey of poetical adventure, and there will be musical stops on your journey too, courtesy of multi-instrumental Caribbean musician - Olugbala Kokumo.

Poets on board the train will include no less than three Past Birmingham Poet Laureates! The first,  Dreadlockalien – is a performance poet who has performed on stages everywhere from Glastonbury to Osaka, and on too many radio and TV programmes to mention, Spoz a.k.a Giovanni Esposito, and thirdly – Simon Pitt, who performs his ‘physical verse’ in public in built-up areas.

Joining the ex-laureates will be Write Out Loud poets Fatima Al Matar (pictured) who has recently published her first collection ‘The Heart and the Subsidiary’, and Tony Stringfellow – author of many collections and poetical radio presenter and performer, Punjabi poet Rattan Reehal, and Birmingham’s prolific writer and artist - Stephen Morris.

The £7.50 ticket also includes food from the buffet car, where a selection of Caribbean food will be available for your journey. You can buy your ticket for this event, and find out what else the Shifnal Festival has to offer at: www.shifnalfestival.com
