Songs of the Tree of Life

1. The Song of the Ovaries

The flowers of the tree of life;

The seeds of past and future

Shining in the leaves,

When she takes the fruit

The leaves yellow and fall.

The fruit of the tree of life

She will leave within the goblet

Hidden in the maze.

Will he reach the fruit

Taste the meaning of life?

The roots of the tree of life

Draw their strength from your existence

Woman of the world.

If you find your voice

The world can be renewed.

2. The Song of the Womb

In spring she is spinning her gossamer gown,

In autumn she’s knitting her shawl,

But she sighs and she weeps and unravels the wool

As soon as the yellow leaves fall.

In Spring she will offer the sweet honey dew

In autumn the best of the wine,

But when the rain falls in the dark of the night

She pours out the blackberry wine.

In spring she will give you the blessing of love

In autumn renewal of youth

But on clear winter nights in the well of her dreams

She will show you the image of truth.

I really like this. Some stand-out lines for me:

"But she sighs and she weeps and unravels the wool" - and the entire middle stanza of part 2.

Do you know of Louise Bourgeois? You remind me of her in some ways. She's a bit of a hero for me :)

I very much liked these poems - rich in imagery and very lovely yet bittersweet.
