OpenMind Valentine's Special Update/Radio's Monologue/Mobile's Monologue

Here is a two-part blog consisting of two poetic monologues which when heard in sucession create a dialogue. I shall be performing these at OpenMind Valentine's Special at Earth Cafe, 16 - 20 Turner Street, Manchester, England, M4 1DZ on Valentine's Day. There are still 8 performance slots left in the OpenSpace.

I remember a time

When songs were sung through me,

Now they shuffle and bustle

in chaotic abandon.

I breathe, as last breaths

are pushed in passing.

Ideas tap and wait,

Broadcasting a pensioner's purgatory.

I've been forced into evolution,

as I refuse to do so

they play my broadcasts

as apps, streams, podcasts.

I lie alone and twisted

like the knobs that spark my life and bring my death.

__________

I remember when I used to be

stuck in one place. Like you,

Now I run on a battery smaller

than your patience.

Video killed the radio star

YouTube made new presenters.

Why pay for what you can get for free*

if you pay a monthly fee?

You're out of touch

whilst I'm touch screen.

You''re obsolete, crawl into your

gutter where nightmares walk freely.

I continue to ring the bells

to the tune of your death.
