Missing The Magic
Your smile is in my heart,
My heart is in your smile.
Waiting for sleep
I picture your face,
When I awake,
You are my first thought.
Love at long distance
Is so hard to do.
But I couldn’t help myself
When the magic began…
My heart catapulted
When your eyes met mine,
Gazing across the seaside bar,
And it wasn’t just the wine.
I’d seen you before on the beach,
I know you saw me too,
Trying not to look obvious,
Glances from the blue.
I wore my bikini briefs,
I was topless, so were you.
You were in swimming shorts,
Both glimpsing the view.
Trying hard not to look
Like desperates on the hunt,
And to hide your arousal,
You turned onto your front.
Then in our evening finery,
We both had to look twice,
When we met in the bar,
But your expression – nice!
First you did a double take,
Then your brown eyes shone,
You almost didn’t recognise
Me with my clothes on!
A good live band was playing,
You asked me for a dance.
I felt I was on cloud nine,
My heart was in a trance.
Our holiday went swimmingly,
If that don’t sound a pun.
But how hard to say goodbye,
When I knew you were the one…
Now back in Britain,
I’m desolate, forlorn,
You in Darlington,
Me in Kent,
And I’m all out of rhyme.
In touch on the internet,
We chat late at night,
You say we’ll arrange it
To meet in Greece again.
Surely not a whole year?
Is that all I mean?
Can’t we snatch a weekend?
Anywhere you like?
