Born into slaving penury and then cowed

pigs they died for the Tsar in battle.

All led to slaughter- while at home

they starved to death in the towns

anonymous as their birth.

You offered them hope

an end to the toil of war,

you offered them dreams,

a printing press of promises

Peace, Bread and Land.

The proletariat would inherit the earth

and the means of production.

But who could have known

the cynicism of your kind,

who could have known

the subversion always in mind?

Red eyed and Lenin

a revolution set apace

as Bolsheviks took over

and history fell into place.

Everything fairly shared

so Pravda would decree.

And this turned out especially true

when it came to lies…

and

misery

Chris
Missed this....very true

Once, as delegate in the seventies in Hungary, we boned the student interpreter to give us the lowdown on the revolution.

As he gave the official version loudly (for fear of a mike) his hand and facial gestures gave one of the most hilarious de-bunking performances of his words that I have ever seen....The people were never completely fooled by the lies.
