BELIEVING THAT I LIED

I know that it always hurts

When I think of you,

And I know it always will

Every time I do.

The memory of what we had

Just won't go away,

And knowing that it turned out bad

Darkens each new day.

| know when we said goodbye

Something in me died;

You seemed to be so very sure

When you said I lied.

It wasn't just the words you used

To tell me we were through;

It hurt much worse that you believed

That I could cheat on you.

When I said I didn't care,

It tore me up inside;

It's funny in the saddest way,

But that was when I lied.

Ladies - thanks for your feedback. I value the
feminine perspective is such things...we men
can be a bit reticent about emotional things.
J.C. - thanks for the tip about R.M.'s work. I'll check it out. Alas, any thought of having a "bloody big cog" would merely render me guilty of wishful thinking!
Salutations.

The best part of the poem is the last verse. Until then I wasn't really hooked in. That last verse really kicks you in the stomach and leaves you hurting. Putting a brave front on is perhaps something I can more identify with. I love the baldness of it.

Even more power out of little lines! Economy of effort is superb. (You must have a bloody big cog in that brain of yours).
