Words Literary Festival Begins on Monday 9th April
This year's Leigh and Wigan Words Together Literary Festival begins on the 9th of April this year. Have a look at the gig guide on this site to check out all the events.
This is the fourth consecutive festival and there will be 32 events to suit all tastes and ages, so join in and make the '07 Festival a resounding success.
There are some new presenters this year, as well as some old friends. Those of you who have become fans of Rosie Lugosi won't be disappointed; we have Paul Cookson, Poet in Residence at the National Football Museum in Preston, and we've been asked by Garry Richardson, BBC Radio Presenter, to send some young Linc journalists to watch Sportsweek being presented live in London.
Other poets and writers will be performing at venues throughout the Borough, and we have the intriguing 'Love versus Lust' presented in Wigan by Commonword (Manchester).
We are also delighted to welcome to Wigan Marina Lewycka, the best selling author of 'A Short History of Tractors in the Ukraine'.
This time we have also organised some 'all year round' activities: open-floor poetry, already a success and run by Julian Jordon of 'Write Out Loud' , every second Thursday in each month at the Tudor House pub in Wigan, and a series of plays by new local playwrights in collaboration with Stewart Aitken of the Wigan Pier Theatre Company, and Scriptshop.
