BROTHERS

Railway station platforms bring partings back to me,

The traces of the those lonely places locked in memory.

How many times we stood together, awkward, you and I,

Each entrapped in misery's web of how to say goodbye.

Now those days are long ago, the platforms owned by others,

In their turn seeking out the words that brothers need for brothers.

this is lovely and sad. I think the last line captures it wonderfully.

Thanks, chums. I guess that for those like me,
brought up in the 50s, the railways brought...
and took away...so much that was important,
unlike today when so many own private transport
and may not make the emotional connection that comes from an age when the train was our
lifeline to the world beyond our front door.

I've always thought that railways and stations intensify emotions - partings, homecomings.
