Trev's Texas Tour 2012 (El Paso to Carlsbad)
14.4.12
Image: Carlsbad, and a dust storm in the afternoon
59) Scenic drive after the setting of the sun,
Two towns lit up as one
Lights like stars reflected on black sea,
As far as the eye could see
Warm wind gently blowing, traffic on the highway flowing
I met and talked to a nice guy,
Although it was a shame it was a cloudy night sky
Now it’s the start of another day, and once more I’m on my way
60) Was it a glitch or was it a hitch
Three times my card denied, when to but gas I tried
So not doing anything rash, I simply handed over the cash
Later took action with an ATM transaction
Nor forlorn, money withdrawn
At the motel it worked as well
Cos’ it wouldn’t have been at all funny
If someone had hacked it and taken the money
61) I arrived at Carlsbad Caverns to find, the clocks still an hour behind
A strong wind had gotten up, nearly took the coffee out of my cup
And if that wasn’t enough to make me blue,
Nearly took my durned glasses too
So I paid my money and was bound, to the caverns cool deep underground
Where stalactites hang like sharp teeth, dripping water into pool beneath
A steady stroll but linger at the exhibit Witches Finger
In the ceiling bats can, rest and breed away from man
Created by nature over millions of years, water drips from the roof like tears
With you camera take, a picture of Mirror Lake
But don’t drop it down the bottomless pit, cos’ if you do that’s it
Iceberg Rock how many know,
It fell from the ceiling thousands of years ago
Stalagmites in mass formation formed to shape the imagination
Growing from the caverns floor seemed to go on for evermore
See in them what you will, artistry no sculptor could fulfil
Came out the wind still blowing, another coffee before going
The wind blew it over buy I didn’t get the blues
At least it cleaned one of my shoes.
62) Another day almost done, wind still blowing
Blew the dust almost blotting out the sun, wind still blowing
Blew spray from he Pecos River, wind still blowing
Soon I’ll be in bed, wind still blowing
Falling asleep listening to, the wind still blowing
