Poets add their voices to Pussy Riot protests
As the appeal of Maria Alekhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Ekaterina Samutsevich, of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot, against their two-year sentences for hooliganism in a Moscow court was put back a week today for legal reasons, poets have been adding their voices to calls for their release.
Catechism: Poems for Pussy Riot, edited by Mark Burnhope, Sarah Crewe, and Sophie Mayer, was published today and the book is distributed on a "pay what you think basis", with a recommended price of £5. All revenue will go to the Pussy Riot legal fund, and the English PEN Writers At Risk programme.
Another group in support is Manchester Poets for Pussy Riot, whose recent event included readings by Tim Allen, Richard Barrett, Philip Davenport and Steven Waling.
Amnesty is asking all those concerned to send an email calling for the unconditional release of Pussy Riot, and for the Moscow prosecutor to drop all charges.
