OPPRESSORS

Just who are these oppressors

They keep banging on about?

Using words - if words could talk,

That would stamp their feet and shout!

Just who are they oppressing

And what do they hope to gain?

Do they oppress like tyrants -

Or is it necessary pain?

Do we invent our demons

For each imagined slight?

Do we need an enemy

To put us in the right?

Are our alleged oppressors

A reflection of ourselves??

Are we busy creating guilt

Like builders stacking shelves?

Just who are these oppressors

That they're so quick to blame?

Is it that they're just like us

In everything but name?

Got it! The person working for the newspaper who gathers up all the letter 'O' and puts them under a steam iron - that's who is the 'O' presser - Oh shit, missed the point again, never mind, ta muchly, nick.

Stanzas one, two, four and five are sound and indisputable.

But - be fair - if we`re poets, stanza three is of the essence if we`re going to write any decently robust poetry against anything at all.

Fully agree with the sentiment, MC.
It seems everyone sees it as the other side's fault.
I once went on a management course where we were asked to write down all the people who were a problem to us at work. We wrote about our boss, our staff, our peers, our suppliers, our customers... No-one wrote "Me".
I've never heard anyone ever say "Come the revolution I'm looking forward to being taken outside and shot".
