Urbis and the Manchester Literature
Festival are running a national call for submissions of micro-fiction based
around the idea of ‘retelling an urban myth’.
Micro-fiction is a style of prose
that is in essence very short, usually 150 – 500 words. This creates an
entertaining genre, jam-packed with variety!
We are asking
people to submit short fiction work, of no longer than 250 words, based on the
theme, Urban myths…retold. The submissions will be judged by a literary panel
including Katherine Beacon (BBC Writers Room) and author David Gaffney, and the
ten strongest works will be selected. Students from the Interactive Arts degree
at MMU have been asked to then respond to the selected micro-fiction pieces and
create new artworks in any genre to be positioned around the Urbis building.
Deadline for submissions is 17th August 2007
On 11th October,
as part of the Manchester Literature Festival, a one night only promenade
performance installation piece will take place at Urbis, featuring all of the
successful selections of micro-stories as interpreted by the Interactive Arts
students…. and the urban myths will be re-told.
Participants can
be any age and must live in the UK.
