THE ROSE
The Rose opened its heart petal by petal
unfolding its virtues to the naked eye
You opened your heart page by page
unfolding your virtues to my soul
even sealing it with a loving kiss
on that fateful day
It was only to last seven weeks
until your gun was pointed at my head
the double barrel between my eyes
you hated the concept of equality
slavery was your understanding
and i didnt bow to your wishes
I ran away, in discontent fearful of the chase
How could I have made such a mistake
and become so gullible once more?
Rose petals lay shrivelling on the carpet
as i removed myself from the threat
instead I turned in a new direction
grateful for my life instead

Tricia, an excellent theme, whether personal or not - trust and vulnerability smashed by dangerous truth. The 'rose' is a good metaphor and carried through to the conclusion. I suppose the use of 'gullibility' is meant to raise more general thought about the 'innately trustful'.
