First Aid for Kids

First Aid for Kids

Their eyes engage me

Widen and enrage me!

“Call an ambulance somebody

Quick, before she ends here lifeless

Cold and dead.”

An RTA in a 4am shadow,

A marrow of blood for a

Congregational crowd

And loud I shout

And spill the beans,

‘Why not teach these beings

As kids,

How to treat a casualties

Bleed?’

I splay my mind at the lack

Of sense,

At all those lost,

These wasted deaths.

Hi Mike,
I did St John's in my early teens. Kept me off the streets and taught me a little. then I discovered girls were much more fun. It was all downhill from there really . . . Should have got my priorities right. I remember a little, may come in useful some day. Point well made.
Regards,
A.E.

p.s. Sorry I made you blub. Don't worry, it wasn't autobiographical!

Hi Mike...glad you liked "Gone to Earth" don't quite know how it came about...I just started writing and it happened that way. First Aid for Kids... yes so much unecessary loss...all children should learn First Aid as part of their education , in my opinion, also basic Childcare, Drama, Art and Creative Writing should be compulsory too whilst we're at it. Hi Mike,
i remember as a kid going to the local St.Johns ambulance for first aid for beginners. I was taught mouth to mouth rescucitation at swimming lessons. I often wonder why i don't hear of many doing the same these days but often ferry people who have nothing more than a scratch to the local A and E.

Your poem reflects a lazy society and you're right, so many lives ruined or lost because of ignorance. Good one.

Incidentally, i read most of your work and can relate to much if it in many ways. It's the political ones i get a bit bogged down with though and it depends on my mood as to whether or not i can read through them.
