Leaving California
Leaving California
Where is a better life?
Travel somewhere I’ve never gone
How do I know I’m right?
If I pretend I’m never wrong
The world is asking me to run
But I never heard the starting gun
Another life I leave behind
Worth the life I try to find
Years ago many rushed
Holding dreams within their hearts
Upon the trail yet to be crushed
To where the silver ends and the gold dust starts
A melting pot, a cultural force
This west coast land has come to be
The fertile valley, coastal source
Redwood groves, blue lakes and streams
The spirit of the land will stay within my heart
But as an Earth child I must choose to depart
Travel the globe for the truth of simplicity
Become as cultured as I can possibly be
Made up my mind, make a new start
I’m leaving California with an aching in my heart
I heard somewhere there’s a girl out there
With passion for her art, and flowers in her hair
