At that Time
At that point in life, no visionary could say, this love wasn’t a true need
Looking back at the past, reliving the memories in old pictures
Our smiles tell the story of love, but the heart spoke a different language
Everything divulged in the relationship, trying to be a symbolism of the rock glimmering on the ring finger
Every ounce spent trying to become a perfectionist, struggling to love you the way you demanded
Qualities possessed just didn’t stand up to par, there was always something lacking
One side, a strong sided effort to be untied, on the other a lackadaisical effort
The good times were over played, in hopes no one would have to admit this was an engagement failed
A vast amount of love, but sometimes as the saying goes love just isn’t enough
A wedding dress sitting in the closet, patiently waiting to be worn
No real urgency to wear it, or plan for the day that’s dreamt about by both men and women, that special day, our wedding day
The reality the un-broken bond our families saw, was spot light and standing center stand
Loving you was incredibly hard, the only feeling we firmly reciprocated
Planning for the biggest moments in life, should have been the most joyous, instead it became the most tumultuous
The burden carried would lead to an ugly separation
Guilt, neither of us had the potential to be a great husband or wife, the need to be changed for the other, had the inability to mold us
For years after, the struggle would remain present, the wish- washy mind consumed on the decision made
Hearts left on empty, re-learning how to live the daily grind
Wallowing in pain, where you the one that got away ?
Tears cried for several days, until the tear ducts had no more tears to cry, they were dry
Two more failed attempts at reconciliation
Trust, betrayal, anger, defeat, and fear firmly stood in the way
In actuality our guts told the story, neither of us authentic to ourselves, this relationship was meant to fail
The tools learned, needed to be applied to someone else, someone who had the capability to be everything we needed
The security, stability, friendship, and lover each of us so thoroughly deserved
Being in love was awkwardly difficult, but having love was easy
Times are changed, at completely different stages of life
The animosity has faded, the emotions no longer raw
Before me, stands a man who loves thoroughly, imperfections and all
There are no pretenses on how to provide love; it naturally falls in its appropriate place
The good days by far, favor the occasional bad day
Communication between two individuals, very clear
Ill will no longer resides in the heart, destiny kept us apart
Once loved, it’s wished you’ve found your way, before you is a woman who has the capacity to love you in every single way
