The 25th Floor
Excitedly I read your text:
'I've found a room for us.'
'In London?' 'Not quite - in Ilford.'
I mustn't make a fuss,
but I didn't think you were serious at all.
Anyway, Ilford's in Essex,
How do I get there from Cornwall?
'A room on the 25th floor', you said,
'just seventeen-fifty a night.
I've booked it for the coming weekend
so get there early on Friday night'.
No cheap seats on Fridays so it will cost me more
It's eight hours to Victoria
then Ilford's another four...
That room on the 25th floor you'd found,
It could have been sublime.
But I'd had no word from you for days,
no catching up on line.
I got tired of waiting, I thought we'd reached the end
so I'd already bought a ticket
on a train to see a friend.
And you were off to Cambridge,
to Edinburgh and more,
So tell me, when were we supposed
to stay on the 25th floor?
'All plans can be changed,' you said, by which you meant mine.
Twelve hours on a coach for one night with you?
You spinning me a line?

Couldn't have everyone thinking I spend my days in Tea Rooms! Thanks for your comment.
