How does it feel

To be locked out of your own mind

To listen to a tune so sweet

It could draw tears from a glass eye

How does it feel

To read nonsense dredged up by delusional minds under the misnomer poetry

So called poets

Stoking intellectual fires

Stunningly unoriginal

With aspirations of greatness

And worth.

How does it feel?

Ludicrous

Oh, Preeti, I just laughed out loud over the poem, and a bit more over the comments. You have stirred up some strong feelings, most of insufficiency. Your poem is, after all, highly personal, referring to your own likes and dislikes of subject and style. You are very brave to be so positive, and eloquent, of what is or is not 'good'. So, I guess I was a bit dismayed by the responses, that the readers/poets took your scathing comments so personally.

Preeti, to my undying shame there were two songs that wouldn't leave my head.

Every time that you, walk in the room....The searchers

Mrs Brown you've got a lovely daughter....Herman's Hermits.

Harry, that's funny and endearing :0
Thanks David :)
Haha Graham, what did you listen to?
Agreed MC
Thanks Martin

It's only when poets take themselves too seriously does it rankle. Greatness speaks for itself: when you try too hard you come across as desperate.

Hit the nail on the head Preeti. I often feel completely ludicrous as does my poetry. I once had a discussion with a guy who owns a bookshop in Hay on wye to whom I stated that I sometimes think that the only people who like poetry are other poets. But that doesn't mean we understand it any more than anyone else.

If poetry means anything to the reader then let its author
be content.

What an incisive subject. I've been re-listening to the music that shook my early teenage world (a very long time ago) and am struck by the simplicity of the words.
I am beginning to reconsider my poetry worth as a result. How clever you are.
