O Cafe Rouge you were quite a beaux

with your heat and chat, your meet and greet

you might have guessed with your mock french faux

your raison d'etre had to go.

 

      Gone the poisson in various guises

      the poulet oft immersed,

      those garish posters of the Moulin Rouge,

      the waiters' comments well rehearsed.

 

and what of the coffee?  never french

American da capo with froth to go.

Those cafe chairs stand unattended

awaiting disposal no longer splendid.

 

but you served us well O Cafe Rouge

your cheeks are weeping  with the running down.

You've had your day in     "how d'you say?"

the slightly darker side of town.
