tiffany
the longest journey
i ever took
a cinema in barnsley
you 15
me 16
an hour of tentative finger steps
each knuckle flexed a thousand miles
each pad exhausted
your soft breath
urging me onwards
like a faithful trainer
in hyde park
at 5am
until i had swum the channel
ran the mile
(as will smith saved the world)
i brushed the cotton
swept through soft pubis
and entered the infinite.

so many things that are great in this, Stu. A cinema in Barnsley sets the scene of early exploration - the last line is a masterpiece of understatement and strikes the right chord of many a memory. This is just up my street: I could have written it myself - but I don't remember Tiffany alas... !
