Blurred as Smoke
Light me up and put me in your mouth,
Inhale it all till everything goes south,
A pack today and two more tomorrow,
Try to use me to kill away your sorrow,
In return I take your lungs away,
And wait till you’re dependent on me to sway,
I’ll turn your life around and be there till the end,
Until you yourself can never mend,
Against you I’ll turn your friends,
To the point where you can never make amends.
Once you’re finished with one,
Light up again till the whole pack is done,
I’ll lure you in and kick you out,
Your body is mine without a doubt,
I remember the time I first tempted you,
You came to me when your friends left and family too,
I took you in and gave you comfort,
Hid logic from your mind until it became inert,
In my comfort I took away from you what I wanted,
Now that you’ll never get out, your life never really mattered.
Try to stop me baby,
But you already know you're savvy,
I dare you to be persistent,
You know you're living on the time I lent,
I'll feed you withdrawal symptoms if you try too hard,
Clenching gut, shaking body and terrible cravings will be your ward,
You'll break when you do,
And realize without me you can't go,
And you'll fall back to me,
For against all this you cannot break my decree.
Month by month and year by year,
Your money and your health I will sear,
As I burn,
I'll take you along for your turn,
I will always overshadow what you’ll be,
So much as to make sure your other side no one will see,
When you fall, I’ll illusion you to feel tall,
And when you finally succumb and die,
I’ll move to the next one just like you as in your coffin you lie.

After 40+ years of smoking I can see all of this...given up now...
