The Wanderer

The evening sky was set alight

As the nomadic satellite

Took station at its settled height

Discovered in the subtle light

Of autumn sun

Thus the coruscating orb it

Acquired geocentric orbit

Concealed by clouds that absorb its

Transmitted data bytes or bits

So alien

Attracted by earth’s gravity

It had a strange propensity

For exploiting the parity

Of nearly matching density

As round it spun

Acquiring a trajectory

Swirling in strange symmetry

Passing through it’s perigee

Defiant of astrometry

Then moving on.

Simplified, astrometry is part of the discipline of astronomy that measures the movements of stars and other celestial bodies.

I like this very much. Science-oriented poetry rules! I like your skill of structure, which best shines when read aloud, after getting one's tongue around the vocabulary.

What exactly is 'astrometry', a measuring of the stars?

What an absolute corker of a poem! I love the louche use of words that express the alien yet very real representation . I love the feeling of frozen motion and big brother watching. Splendid stuff.
