Spring Haibun
Land relaxes in denial of winter’s clenched claw. Fragile seeming shoots bravely thrust through thawing earth. Vanguard crocuses dot meadows with colour, contrasting slender snowdrops’ sally. Migrating birds return and pair off, renovating vacant nests. Reprobate magpies huddle in groups discussing latest thefts. Early lambs caper around their mothers in lively lolloping leaps, oblivious to the world. Melting snows coupled with errant showers swell streams and rivers, burbling between brimming banks. Mountains slowly bare their heads of icy bonnets under welcome warming sun. Nature’s urgency drives single-minded passion of new life for old. Frozen death of old year giving way to burgeoning life of new.

Trevor - thank you for opening my eyes to haibun and in such a beautiful example. I will now contemplate whether haiku is still enough for me! Thanks again.
