Donegal Haibun

Irregularly shaped, hilly fields surrounded by low, dry-stone wall, lined with fuchsia hedges. Arrays of red buds against bushy green foliage contrasting with yellowing corn, still, not moving in oppressive, airless afternoon. Mixed perfumes of nearby ocean bay, ripening grasses, peat cooking fire smoke permeating motionless air.  Sun high in azure blue sky, pitilessly pounding down on fields and determined farmhands. Sparse, wispy white clouds high overhead, giving no respite from heat. Across adjacent sand hills, calm blue depths, stained with occasional swirling shadow revealing shoals of fish. Light, feathery golden sand giving way to wet, rippled beach at sweeping water’s edge. Invitingly cool, offering relief from demonic heat’s fiery grasp.
