I Have That Tape Still

entry picture

Enough said
and
drunk,
we sulked
and danced
and waited for:
coats
taxis
kebabs.

holding posters
of
dead rock stars
we climbed
the bare stairs.

Some wine
and the best sounds on tape
and white bulbs painted red or blue
and grass,  'cool'
no chairs,
white walls,
carpeted.

my flat.

More drink
and looking out of windows
and Tom Waits on tape
and that 'gear' from Egypt.

pushing each other gently

and

opening windows
and

and

we laughed
and peered out of the
cataract window

Unexpectedly you stood close
and we were still strangers... just

Liverpool was wet and outside
And though you held your spliff and hand in that way that
Invites comment.....

We chocked on the strength
of the 'blow'
and laughed again
and
when we kissed
it was sudden
as...
I did not know-
where it came from-
we kissed
slow
That kiss I venture
I do return
to it
(I think you sighed)
god I think you sighed!

I have that tape still.

Tommy, I may be too naive to get all this, but I think it's full of sexual insinuations just barely beneath the words: 'Egyptian gear' (might know it by another name), 'holding the spiff', 'Liverpool is wet'. If I'm not totally off-mark, then this subtle imagery is superb. Or am I completely over the top?

Hi Tommy,
Sounds like good, yet bittersweet, memories. And yet they say if you can remember it you weren't really there. You convinced me.
Regards,
A.E.

Hi Tommy, Loved this dialog poem. By the time I got to the line 'Liverpool was wet' things changed gear and Iwas racing to the finish, so I guess this means you have done a great job, well done! Winston
