Wispa R.I.P.

entry picture

For twelve glorious years

You were a member of the family

The highs and lows you were there to see

A constant delight and companion to everybody

The day has come for a last goodbye

All we can do is sit and cry

Unconditional love and affection

Was always yours to give for free

I smile and recall the joy on the face of thee

When you frolicked as a puppy by the sea

Now your legs they don’t work anymore

The pain you are suffering we can no longer ignore

Wispa now that you are gone

All we have are cherished memories

Happy days of you bounding through the trees

As free and frisky as a summer breeze

The futures bleak as far as I can see

If only you were still here by me

A girl with a beautiful silky coat

Named after a tasty chocolate bar

We will scatter your ashes near and far

On the tranquil Morecambe sea shore

A fitting resting place for the dog we adored

So long Wispa until we meet again once more

Hi M.C. - Nice to hear from you. Thank you for your supportive and comforting verse. Animals seem to love unconditionally and have unquestioning loyalty. Kind regards. Tom :-D

I know my sister would nod in recognition. She has kept
dogs for most of her ife, with the sadly repeated experience of losing each in its turn over the years...
the painful downside of a treasured time-honoured relationship in nature.
I sent her some lines after her much-loved border collie called Sue left this life, knowing how she must be feeling.
"Sometimes, alone, I see her face,
I hear her on the stair;
I hold my arms out to embrace
My Sue -and she'll be there".
