THEY'RE DIGGING THE ROAD UP AGAIN
They're digging the road up again
last time it was a water main
this time it's gas replacement
from minor road to minor basement
they're moleing through the grass and dew
the traffic mounts
temporary lights
temperatures rise
and particulates.
They're digging up the road again
strange vehicles stand back to back
men in red are visible for miles
workers in an urban circus
the electric was done not long ago
traffic diverted for months on end
wildlife breathed sighs of relief
furrowing and burrowing underneath
temporary lights
more particulates.
We see the services oft updated
utilities dig into ample coffers
simultaneously advertising
the temptations of their latest offers.
Soon the signs will go up again
with the weight of bigger tipper lorries
on their way to distant quarries
pressing down on pipes and cables
and down in those dumps is where we'll be
just like it's like on reality telly
while we endlessly complain
and temperatures climb like a rising main.

I think if you did a survey around the country Martin, there would be a lot of angst on this subject. Not forgetting the leaving out of redundant cones for other teams (in red, or yellow).
Colin: Could you be thinking of the Bernard Cribbens comedy song on the same subject ? Or it could just be On the Road Again -(who by I don't remember). TV is an option but I feel while telly is a ghastly word it just seems to ready easier being one syllable. Thanks anyway. I sympathise - we all suffer - I've usually got a sarcastic comment ready after fuming , but the old blood pressure you know! Yes, particulates is nasty and pseudo scientific, which makes it quite a useful word I suppose.
Thanks both. Ray
