Anarchy

Is it me?

Or is it just anarchy?

No Smoking sign at the hospital door,

That the smokers around it seem to ignore.

A ‘No U Turn’ sign at the traffic light;

All the cars make their U Turn, nice and tight.

Is it me?

Or is it just anarchy?

The sign at the roadside says ‘Clean Up Zone’;

We can’t see the ground for litter that’s thrown.

Twin yellow lines say you’d better not park,

But cars obscure them from morning till dark.

Is it me?

Or is it just anarchy?

Speed limit is thirty out on the street;

Cars think that a challenge they have to beat.

Bikes think they’re safer to ride on the path,

Forget pedestrians in the bloodbath.

Is it me?

Or is it just anarchy?

Everyone says they abide by the law,

But that doesn’t gel with all that I saw.

Don’t get me started on burglars and theft,

But don’t call the cops, there aren’t any left.

Is it me?

Or is it just anarchy?

There’s just no respect for others out there,

So I’ll just rant and tear out my hair!

Yes MCN, I tend to use "You're welcome!" to those pushers past.

"How true" is my reaction to these lines...a timely rebuff
perhaps to the way "freedoms" have run roughshod over
"responsibilities" and the consideration for others that
was instilled in my life as a post-war child. If someone
pushes past me and the door I'm holding open, I now
call out "The correct response is 'thank you'". I use
this approach in various polite forms to address bad manners and self-serving public behaviour. Then there
is the behaviour that some exhibit behind the wheel of
a motor vehicle: morons in charge of a ton or more of
deadly machinery. There should be psycho tests of all
those seeking to pass a driving test of whatever sort -
and those seeking a new D/L after disqualification.
I have the very distinct feeling that parents of later
generations than my own have had a juvenile desire
be eternal kids themselves, free from constraint and
discipline and unable to impose them on their offspring...
result: the worst sort of social situations bordering on
- and often descending into - the "anarchy" featured in these lines.
