CHARITY MARATHON ROW
(We did it! To commemorate my 65th birthday, my daughter, the intrepid Samantha Coopey, and I did a marathon on a gym rowing machine on Sunday in aid of The Teenage Cancer Trust. We've raised just shy of a thousand pounds. This poem is a re-post of an earlier one I did when I was a spring chicken of 58).
We entered for a sponsored run -
Macmillan Cancer Trust;
All four of us determined,
“We'll do it – shit or bust!”.
We scheduled for last Sunday
And planned it quite a while;
A 10k run round Sheffield
(That's near enough 6 miles).
The team was Richard, Paul and Glen-
The four of us good mates,
But they are nobbut out of school
While I am 58.
We all agreed that I instead
Would do mine down the gym
And row, not run, on their machines
(I looked like Fatboy Slim!).
Great Success! I can relate;
They ran like lunatics;
It took them 60 minutes to
Complete “The Sheffield Six”.
My marathon was not so quick
(I suspect a fix!)
'Cos 4 hours later I had done
A gruelling twenty six.
They didn't give much credit
For the work I'd done
All I got by way of thanks,
“You did it on yer bum!”.

Thanks, MC. Good to know you and your bro are still carrying your bats.
