LAND OF HOPE AND JACKANORY
So, Theresa May's political gamble following unpopular intentions became a busted flush, with Corbyn
benefitting from the youth/protest vote (see the result in Canterbury and various university towns for
examples of that).
There was a song around the time of WW2 that encouraged folk to "keep young and beautiful if you
want to be loved". A political update might be to "be young and gullible to see the Tories get shoved!"..
Anyone would think that "Remainer" May's recent visits to pre-Brexit Brussels had been for advice
about how to scupper the process and still hang on (just) to power. And as for irony, the return of
the Tories in Scotland (land of the fiscally canny and careful) at the expense of the SNP was surely
a "carry on" lifeline, together with the rise of the unionist DUP, that no one expected to help May in
time of need..
The sight of Clegg (reminders of Portillo here in London) losing his seat - along with the two big
SNP names - were images to put alongside other notable political upsets...whilst the ageing
Cable and the younger Goldsmith got back into Parliament for their respective parties to add to
the merry-go-round of mixed messages.
We are truly "living in interesting times".

We certainly are living in interesting times, especially when a win is considered a loss and a loss a win.
