IT'S FUN TO BE FROM THE NORTH

It's fun to be from the north

it really really is,

everyone's so friendly

we tell you the way things are

no fancy frills

no slippery words

we say the way it is.

You can count on us from the north

you really really can

helpful in every possible way

no needless fuss

from the likes of us

we like to keep it thus.

We're not stuck up like the southerners

not us lot in the north

we'll never judge you be sure of that

though we'd like you to know

that 'ow do means hello

and we don't give a tuppeny cuss.

There'll always be a welcome up here

so get yourself off your bums

and find out what it's like in't north

i'm mekkin' it quite clear

that no matter what you southerners say

we're more natural and more sincere.

Why Hi elP, don't I really like just totally get that, you know? Fascinating stuff on the clip and it shows you that the accents haunt us. Vive la difference though for me. I'm learning the Donald Trump impression , maybe i'll put the voice on one day !
Thanks x

Without expounding too much--because I'm sure it's much the same anywhere you go--here's an example...

Suki, it is indeed a funny old world, and this a funny site too. It is nice to be able to express most things - no secret thought police. Thanks my friend.

I'm curious now elP what your version may be - is it rednecks v ivy league? Thanks for commenting.

I don't have a horse in this race, as it's said, but we have our version here in the States..how droll and very clever.

Oooh, saucy Ray!

I've had it from all sides: From Liverpool, living in London, and being of Indian origin, I tell you I have seen and heard it all. You either laugh or you will cry! What a world.

Suki

ps As you are reading this I'm outside nicking the hub caps from your car, even though I can't drive..

Thanks David and Mark. I feel like this poem has expanded into something quite hard to manage in view of the quite intense viewpoints expressed. My simple poem was there to express more of a sentiment rather than of attitudes. Of course there are layers of entrenchment and hypocrisies in any social situations, and I can see there is a divide.

It would be disingenuous of me not to admit to this, but I hope we are are all mature enough to accept that political sensitivities and leanings will always be griss for disagreement and for now am happy to leave the wider issues for another time. In other words: I couldn't possibly comment....

love to you both

If northerners have more fun, it's because they relish making life a misery for the rest of us! ?
I've never heard a Devonian brag/moan with such brazen
self-obsession as that experienced from those north of
Watford.
As for David's mention of nationalism, I've never had a
problem with my own nationality, even tho' the word that describes it and its language rarely gets a mention these
days in a PC U.K. so anxious not to give offence to others.

Thanks David - that's a very good point you're quite right, that there are if you like pockets of resistance no doubt left over by a sense of local identity. At least the north do still seem to possess one; if it wasn't for local traditions we wouldn't have Charles and Camilla giggling would we?.
During my gig experiences we were lavished with love and attention in the north. Am I backtracking? probably.

Harry, nicely deflected with no malice. I have no defence to that!

`Course it is Ray = `course it is...I wouldn`t say that we had that much more sense...but we have much more fun!
