Calling Writers/Performers Who Use B.S.L.
Two Manchester based poets, Dave Stannage & Michael Wilson, are planning to stage an integrated D/deaf & hearing event in February 2010 at a venue in Manchester.
The event is aimed at bringing together D/deaf and hearing artists; specifically poets, story tellers and comedians. Though it will be accessible to all members of the public.
The ultimate aim is to create a network of people with a commitment and interest in raising deaf awareness, and forging links between deaf and hearing communities.
The initial project aims to experiment and explore how deaf art forms, such as B.S.L. poetry can be understood and appreciated by a hearing audience. Likewise, we would like to include deaf people in events that would typically be exclusively for hearing people.
Recognising that there are many difference between the two cultures and respecting both, Michael and Dave want to explore the process of translation between the two.
As well as writers and performers from the D/deaf and hearing communities, the project is looking for people who have organisational and technical skills, experience of getting funding, and creating and running a body of performers.
