When loneliness drags its heels

slouches in the slow lanes

anxious going nowhere

all eyes are unfocussed

and that nagging shadow 

won't look up

when hope comes to call

 

hearing that lonely bell

where loneliness calls instead

with a silent voice

echoing down empty halls.
