Addiction (above and beyond)

ADDICTION
Above and beyond

I inject myself daily
Four years since I’m clean
I roam through the streets
A split social spleen

I will beg for a living
I live for the day
I’ll do anything it takes
To maintain my way

The capillaries are open
I have heroin in my bloodstream
I’m the vagrant drug user
From your darkest of dreams

I’m afflicted with addiction
There’s a needle in my vein
My life is a lost cause
To the drug dealers gain

In the blackest of alley’s
On the brightest of day’s
I scream from the belly
That I’ll change my way’s

But not till God calls me
No, not till I die
Shall I escape from this hell
To inject in the sky

Are the needles in heaven
To put heroin in my veins
Even in paradise
The addict in me remains.
