Falling Star
He’s slipped from the ‘A’ list right down to the ‘D’,
His career has slid into decline.
He once almost daily was seen on TV,
Now only in re-runs on-line.
His name is no longer the top of the bill,
More often it’s not there at all.
They say they will call him, but they never will,
Such is the extent of his fall.
His fortune has slowly been frittered away,
Like his fan-club, it soon disappears.
He takes on a job, and he lives day to day,
And ignores the disparaging sneers.
He’ll go to the jungle, or maybe to dance,
In the hopes that his star will revive;
That someone will give him another big chance,
And this time he’ll try to survive.
But the days slide on by, the weeks and the years,
Yet nobody calls on the phone,
So he hocks his awards cos his rent’s in arrears,
And he sits there at home, all alone.

The story of those who, having found success, lose sight
of how, when and why - and proceed to waste what that success gave them - well caught in these lines. It is
pleasing to see names from the past pop up in new
ways to further their show-biz lives. Long live panto!!
