Death

is so untidy.

It sneaks up when you’re not ready.

Doesn’t give you a chance

to return the library books,

or cancel the milk.

It would be far better

if it could make an appointment,

give you time to finish what you’re doing.

I get that it’s inevitable,

that nobody escapes it.

Maybe you can evade it for a while,

but sooner or later

you know it will come,

the final item

on your bucket list.

Well, you’re hardly going to visit the Grand Canyon

afterwards, are you?

Much better to plan ahead,

make that list:

trip to the seaside,

world cruise,

book the crematorium.

Nice and neat,

well ordered,

only dying when you’ve finished living.

Yes, I guess it does Graham. Perhaps we just don't want to listen!
And yes Colin, I have a list like that - also an 'Oh well' list that I know I won't really get round to - or be able to do. But I did Oz & NZ a year or so ago, so that'll do!

Thanks for the comments guys. ?

well I've done the Grand Canyon - north and south rims - so I can go to my grave a happy cadaver Trev ?

As I get older I prefer to have a fuckit list of things I won't do - the cruise thing is in the top ten ?

As the old comic says, don't buy any long playing records. A serious subject, treated with world weary resignation. I personally think those funeral plans are just cynical exploitation.

Much enjoyed - which seems an odd thing to say, considering the subject. But it has honesty and - zing! And damn good advice, too.
