This fly is out of place

and out of line

a fly who comes into the house

this late in the season

not a typical summer fly

that comes with summer heat

but a fly who has the audacity

to show up in October

a holdover

or just a late bloomer

he's here to buzz our heads

and harass us in the kitchen

landing on the stove, the table, the plates

this morning oddly enough

he came into my office

as if to say hello

and then to show his cleverness

he landed on the keyboard

knowing he was safe

the fly that appeared out of nowhere

is crafty and incredibly lucky

I have to hand it to him

he knows when the swatter comes out

and disappears

he watches and waits

until we put the swatter away and then poof

he reappears with an evil smile on his fly face

one day it will happen

this fly's luck will run out and

he will become just a stain upon a wall

but in the meantime

he is this brazen fly

who leads us into frustration

our fly who came in from the cold.
