Oddities

Blown by the wind

a newspaper page slams

into the window of the store

it hits the glass

then drops to the sidewalk

like a limp watch in a Dali painting

now wet with rain

it never moves again

we note its untimely death

something that we mention

only because we witnessed it

and felt a need to record

such an obscure event

but somehow

it made an impression

such are the oddities

caught up in the winds

of a poet's life

items which fall

before a poet's eye

and end up in a poem.
