THE HYPERTENSIVE SPARROW

entry picture

THE HYPERTENSIVE SPARROW

It struck me as odd whilst adjusting my tax

How sparrows never drop dead or suffer heart attacks

So I turned from my tax form feeling quite tense

Trying to justify my thoughts and make sense

After all, what pressures intrude the nest?

The birdies can’t be too stressed or depressed

Why should the birdies be blessed with such luck

Reincarnate me as a swallow or a magpie or a duck

Then I won’t have to worry about the mortgage and bills

I won’t be hypertensive I can stop taking the pills

After all when was the last time you saw a sparrow

Having his blood pressure taken!

doing anything ispreferable to doing a tax return. (I have had several false starts in the last week)nice poem, unusual angle/ subject. Liked it for that. Winston

I want to be a cat, permanently being stroked and as much red meat as I like without guilt. I'll promise only to catch frogs and mice though.

Brilliant, not just me who gets stressed over tax then..... the thing is though the poor old Sparrow is a species under pressure, I think maybe one of the reasons is the disappearing hedge rows. Great idea for a poem.

Hi Nells - it's funny, I just this minute wrote a poem about a lonely swan, and yesterday I wrote one about a blackbird, which I might post tomorrow - must be spring in the air (somewhere!) Hope writing poetry is good for the blood pressure! Thanks for your very kind comments on Moongirl.
