Mary and Jack

Mary and Jack

Preamble

This is a little-known story about Little Jack Horner and Contrary Mary. It has not been published in any kiddies book as far as I'm aware.  I was fortunate in  already having written about Little Jack when this was assigned as our Rhymer Club theme for this week.  It was written last year when I was still learning the art of rhyme and only felt comfortable with the title 'Poet in Training'.

Mary Mary quite contrary

How does your garden grow?

If Little Jack Horner had stayed in his corner

My seeds'd be ready to sow

Young Jack he just got a bit frisky

He wanted to come after me

He trampled all over my garden

To get at my virginity

Young Jack I just gave a quick boot to

And told him to untrample my plot

I'm not sure quite yet 'bout my garden

But my purity I still have got

I hear gay young Mary
Stopped being contrary
When choosing a career in Space;
She soon changed to airy-fairy...
Finding heaven in that place! ?

I am still a poet in learning
To keep me there, right up to date
On how I can deal with these pesky
These pesky, annoying, devil incarnates

You must Brian be painfully aware
How important continued training is to me
Can't let myself (and my Australia)
Slide into obscurity

glug glug glug....?

So Don...no longer in training? You know it all?

(I'm playing devil's advocate.)

Maybe I could publish an anthology of similar kiddie/adult stories? A first for new-breed Aussie poets?....?
