Rebel

 

Break the rules my shadow said

Standing 'longside me

Do you want to stay trapped in

Conventionality ?

 

Conform like all the others

Sitting on the shelf ?

Predictable and frightened

Afraid to be them themself

 

No! rebellion's in me

Keeps coming to the fore

To do my thing regardless

Of all poetic laws

 

The rules say spell correctly

But I say why can't I

Change the rules around a bit

To rhyme with poetri ?

 

Then there's the rules 'bout grammar

Like in my second verse

When shelf/themself just don't make sense

Good God, I'm getting worse

 

I'll do my bit regardless

Whate'er you think of me

I will refuse to be trapped in

Conventionality
