The Critic

i ain't much of a poet

i just play around with it

because i found out wimmen

like poets

once in a while

a pome will pop up

in my mind

that's purdy good

then i'll read it

to my old dog

here on the porch swing

his head layin gentle in my lap

the dog is good to read to

he listens well

and critiques the pome

with his tail

two wags is good

3 wags is excellent

no wag means it stinks

but most of all

he is the smarter of us two

he never is too critical

he knows damn well

where his next meal

is coming from.

I've no doubt that there are many creators and performers who think critics are dogs! ? Or, as someone observed, critics are people who can tell you how to get to a place but don't know how to drive.

Is every dog a reliable critic? If so maybe I ought to get one. Animals can be quite discerning creatures.

I like "the stem of grass in the teeth" ruminating feel of these lines.
Maybe you should really worry if your dog moves close and cocks its leg!

Perhaps I should take your advice dk
And get a dog I can offload ?

Oh there's plenty wrong with me, but nothing that can't be solved with the companionship of a good piece of poetry.

The yin/yang of this makes it one of your best. A metaphysical walk through the park, if you will.
