I Cast A Shadow
I cast a shadow.
A featureless wraith that holds my shape,
An empty image that fades into night,
A hollow silhouette that I can't escape,
Played out on the ground when it's felt out by the light.
But it has been with me ever since I can recall,
A reminder that darkness hides within the edge of light,
And without the "me" you see, it could not exist at all,
This lonely refugee, of me, from the night.
So I embrace my shadow, as it dances at my feet,
And smile as it follows all my journeys in the light,
For I know that without it I wouldn't be complete,
And everywhere I go I take a little slice of night.

Shadows and souls... I am reminded of a short story written by Oscar Wilde called "The fisherman and his soul!" I urge you all to read it! It's beautiful and it more or less says that one's shadow is their soul...even though that's not exactly the theme, it's just a piece of the story's imagery, so, don't worry I didn't spoil it for you!
