Going back on my roots

entry picture

My Northern English heritage has always been a source of personal pride

I’ve always believed that I was born the right side of the North/South divide

An industrial revolutionary raised from the stock of the working classes

A staunch belief in equal rights, human rights and justice for the masses

So as a man of principal, it’s hard to ditch my northern sisters and brothers

To head south of the border and stand side by side with Southern others

But the thought of shrill scouse voices rattling round my head

Singing you will never walk alone fills my heart with dread

Therefore on the first of June, this Mancunian son won’t give two hoots

About his Northern English Heritage or his Northern English Roots

I’ll be cheering on Pottechino’s boys, resplendent all in white

As they take on and overcome Jurgen Klops red shite

Fingers crossed that Tottenham Hotspur are crowned European masters

As the mickeys cry into their scarfs to the tune of …

You Scouse Bastards!

You Scouse Bastards!

You Scouse Bastards!

You Scouse Bastards!

I recall locating a very disturbing video online of a match between
Liverpool and Man. Utd following the tragedy suffered by the
latter in the Munich air-disaster. The chanting of the Liverpool
supporters made a vile mockery of that tragedy. I've never
had much time for that club or its supporters.

The rivalry between Manchester United and and Liverpool FC cannot be understated. As a kid growing up in the 70's my team were in the wilderness whilst Liverpool seemed to win everything. As a young man in the 90's the trend was reversed as Ferguson achieved his goal of "Knocking Liverpool off their perch". Whilst it is considered treacherous to support another football team other than your own there are many United fans this will resonate with. Irrespective of who wins, what a dramatic end to the season with English clubs dominating in Europe and a down to the wire finish in the EPL. May the best teams win.
