An Innocent Abroad ( A Soldier’s Letter to his Chaplain)
She’s over there
I’m over here
Tell me
Where’s the sense in that
There’s never been a letter
Or a hand knitted sweater
Just a photograph of her Mother
And
Her poxy little brother
In the garden
Last September
Burying
My cat
While I’m overseas
She’s down there on her knees
She’s often there
I’m often here
With not so much as a Christmas wish
She’s flighty and flirty
In fact she’s very dirty
And
It’s all beginning to smell
Of fish
And for that matter so is Tiddles my cat
Anyway
While I’m far away she’s busy making hay
While the sun shines
Out of her arse
Oh yes
She makes it pay all right
Staying out all night
Somewhere over there!
She’s There I’m Here
Not even a telephone call
There’s been fuck all
I send her plenty of money
Don’t laugh it’s not funny
She pisses it up the wall
And that’s not all
You see…
While the cats away…
…far away
Oh I do miss
Tiddles
What I meant to say was
While I’m over here
Crying in my beer
She’s out
Shagging!
Shagging Like a rabbit
And that’s not the kind of habit
That endears
Nor does it kindle love’s flame
While she’s stands on the corner
Doing business
On the game
Somewhere
Over there!
She’s somewhere
Somewhere
Over there
And
Do you know what?
I don’t care
She can stay there
And I
I will stay here
She can piss off
She can shag until she is blue in the face
It’s a fuckin’ disgrace…
I really loved my cat
Listen I have had enough
The goings got rough
She’s dumped that’s tough
I just don’t care
I don’t care what’s right or fair
Just as long As she fucks off
Somewhere
Over there!

I loved reading this - between the rhythm of it and the story, it's just great. Just the right amount of honesty, anger and humor. Good format too. Nice job!
