Rats

entry picture

Slink in the grey and look upon what's left
Shrouded memory of the greatest theft

Earth is still here yet corruption flows from it
By human hands we breath the plastic

Love convenience and don't give a fuck,
Let others swim in the filth, in the muck

Feigned concern and loose conviction
World on fire yet what mild trepidation

Who cares about the future if it's not yours?
Praise corporations and entrepreneurs

Turn your people into lab rats with no goal
Suffering remains where greed takes its toll

A solution that requires the aid of those profiting from the disease as much as the cure will always come at as high a cost as possible. Thank you very much for your comments.

Beautifully expressed, the hopelessness of it all. Chances are we can't change it now, but the sad fact is that for every one of us who would rather die trying than just give up, there are a thousand saying, "Crisis, what Crisis?"
It seems likely that humanity will respond just that bit too late.
Great poem, great message.

HOL what you say is what I often think. I can rant and rave poet lyrical as much as I want but it won't change a thing. All it does is get it out of my system. It needs a strong person to lead a mass movement pack......a politician???

Thank you so much, Don and Keith. I wish poetry had the power to topple the biggest rats.
